Cairns Sunday 4 November | ||
Walking along the streets of Cairns finding a nice eating place for breakfast. Bumped into Sean and Rachel again who were also having breakfast. It's a small world after all. Finally found some place where we could eat. Ordered the usual breakfast; bacon, scrambled eggs, toast and orange juice. After breakfast we visited Prodive, a store where you can buy all sort of things for water sports. John who's going for a diving course has to do a medical check. I had nothing better to do than taking it easy, so I decided to come along. Also I needed to shoot my film roll full, so it could be developed. While walking in the streets I tried to shoot as much pictures as I could. After the medical check at the medical centre we walked back to shopping mall. Each photoshop charged different prices for their products on CD. It was good to compare prices before I dropped off my film rolls. I finally found a photoshop that could offer me a fair price for the development of my films. Double prints including putting them on CD-Rom for only $ 295 AUD. That's loads of money, but you'll get lifetime memories in return. During the tour I had shot a lot of pictures. At the Pier we also drank some refreshments during the hot day. We walked around a bit and took a taxi back to the resort. A nice relaxed day, no hassle at all. At the resort we played pool and listened to music from the jukebox. A nice surprise was that the pool table didn't work well, so we had free play. No coins had to be inserted, because the balls came rolling out each time we shot into a pocket. It was pretty warm today. We turned on some ventilators for cooling. There was also another Contiki group at the resort, that's going to travel from Cairns to Sydney. They were pretty quiet, not like our group. In the evening I took a shower. 7:30 PM. We went with a taxi to the city centre for dinner. Dropped off a voucher at Prodive and we walked to the Italian restaurant along the Esplanade. Across the street was the photoshop where I dropped off my films for development. I ordered chicken filet with mushroom sauce, beans and mashed carrots. It tasted delicious and it had some alcohol in it too. The lovely meal wasn't so fulfilling, because I was still hungry. No dessert because we just wanted the bill. We argued about the bill, because we didn't know how much we had to pay exactly. Is it including GST or without? We paid $ 66 AUD and left to collect my photos at the photoshop across the street. 9:00 PM. One CD-Rom had to be burn and than it's done. We could wait a little while because we didn't have anything better to do. Seeing some photos brings back a lot of memories. A few photos weren't developed well, that's a real bummer. Eventually it took 30 minutes before everything was done. It was already after closing time, but the two lovely ladies stayed and finished the job. Developing eleven film rolls, double prints and putting them on CD-Rom. Packed, we said goodbye and of course big thanks for the service. A job well done. Earlier in the afternoon John saw an English pub where we could watch soccer. We found it, but it was pretty crowded. So we decided to go back to our resort. Too early to sleep, so we went to the bar at the resort. Bought a big Coca Cola and sat down to look at the pictures. Some of the pictures turned out very well. The pictures bring back a lot of memories. It seems ages ago, but it's only been two weeks ago since the tour started. Time really flies when you're having fun!
Seeing all the pictures back, I wish I had talked more with my fellow travellers, but
I'm not much a real talker. Although I had enjoyed the tour very much and all the places
we've been to. There was also another Contiki
group staying at the resort, travelling from Cairns to Sydney. They were so quiet.
Not like us, we were loud and having a ball. Like Russ said: Breaking the law!!!
Breaking the law!!! Around 11.00pm we headed back to our room. I sorted out my
photos and went off to bed.
