Fraser Island Friday 26 October | ||
Our guide today was David, an experienced driver, who has done this trip a thousand of times accompanied by a trainee. Buckle up, because it's going to be a bumpy ride. The first sight we were about to see was the Stonetool Blowout. Sand dunes that are driven by the wind and progress each day. We had tea on the beach and time to enjoy the area. Drove along the beach and passed the Maheno shipwreck, that we will check out later on. Lunch was at the Happy Valley Resort. Fried rice, chicken, vegetables and some fruit. Yummy! After being stuffed we headed back to our 4WD and we went to the Pinnacles. Fortunately we drove along the beach, otherwise it could be very messy (read throw-ups). The Pinnacles was very nice to see all the coloured sand was corroded by rain and wind through decades. After a few minutes we headed to the Maheno shipwreck we saw earlier today. The ship stranded ages ago and was rusty caused by all the weather conditions throughout the decades. Shot a few photos and we continued our trip along the beach. At one point we also saw a lonely dingo strolling down the beach. Andrew and Danny had taken the opportunity to fly above Fraser Island, while we were travelling on to Eurong Beach to pick them up. After the flight they told us, that it was amazing and worth every penny. We continued our trip to pay a visit to the rainforest at Central Station. We strolled down the forest and saw different kinds of vegetation, but no animals. You heard all kind of sounds but you didn't see the animals that were making them. We walked for a couple of minutes before we headed to Lake McKenzie to meet the other half day 4WD tour. The roads were pretty bumpy, so you had to hold on tight, otherwise you could end up seeing the floor at very close range. Finally we arrived at Lake McKenzie and met the other group. We sat down or took a dive in the lake. We stayed here for a while and later on it started to rain a little bit, so it's time to return to our resort. During our ride back I secretly captured Danny trying to get some sleep. it's quite funny to see while we were still moving on. Amazing how he tried to get some sleep with all those bumps. Back at the main centre complex we didn't wanted to wait for the shuttle bus, so we walked all the way up to our accommodation. Took a shower and waited till dinner time. It started to rain and so I ran down to the Wilderness Bar, where we all have dinner. Because it wasn't time to serve the dinner yet, Andrew, John, Sylvia and I played some pool. After our match of pool we stood in line for our dinner. I had chosen two slices of pizza, no fuzzle and easy to eat. I dug in like the others and went for another turn. Yummy! Even got time to shoot some pictures of the evening. Paul insists that I must be in front of the camera this time, with the girls. Not complaining at all! Who doesn't want to sit between all the lovely girls? Quite a funny and memorable moment of the trip. Later on Paul and Chris were wearing wigs. That was really funny to see and fortunately I shot a picture of it. I even wore the colourful wig for a brief moment.
There was another group here, but we were from Contiki
and we were the best and the loudest too! It was a very nice evening, but I went
early to the lodge to have an easy evening. Tired from the full day 4WD tour. Wrote
my diary and went off to bed.
