6:00 AM. Woke up. it's an early start because we had to catch our ferry back to the mainland. 6:30 AM. Breakfast,
scrambled eggs, bacon and juice. 7:15 AM. went off to the wharf to catch our ferry. Back on the mainland we had
to wait for Chris, who was picking up the coach. We continued our way further north. We stopped at the Big Crab
for lunch. Also met the Connections group who was travelling to Sydney.
Today we were going to cross the Tropical of Capricorn. We stopped at the information centre to look around,
before we entered Rockhampton, the beef capital of Australia. We pay a visit to the Dreamtime Aboriginal
Cultural Centre, to learn how to throw a boomerang, listen to the sounds of a didgeridoo and to see some dance
performances. At the end of the dances Russ, Jason and Julia also tried to do some dance performances. What
was quite funny to see. A big applause for them, because they got on stage and tried perform.
4:00 PM. We finally arrived at Club Crocodile. Unpacked our stuff and quickly went to the pool for a refreshing
dip. We didn't have much free time today, so I took a shower and with a big group we went to the Koorana Crocodile
farm. It was an optional excursion. While driving some of the boys got undressed and danced through the whole
coach. Oh boy, everything can happen during a Contiki tour. A big 10, for showing their undies!
We arrived at the farm, sat at the tables and ordered some drinks. I gotten very hungry and could almost eat
anything. The starter was crocodile soup. Yummy! Before we could start each of us got pieces of crocodile meat
on a stick. To really taste the flavour of a crocodile. It really tasted like chicken with less flavour. The soup
was really delicious!
After everyone had his/her soup we got the opportunity for another turn. I couldn't sit here while there was
enough crocodile waiting for me. ;-) After my second bowl of soup, I wanted to go for another turn, but I had to
be social and give others room too for a second turn. it's so hard. Sometimes you have moments like this; you
just want to keep eating, because it tastes very good!
We also had to choose our main course between fish or meat, before we went to see the crocodiles. it's was pretty
dark outside, the guide told us about the crocodiles and the farm. The crocs were truly amazing and quite large
too! Seeing them at close range is very cool although it's behind a fence, otherwise we could end up as a meal.
The feeding was great, seeing the crocs and their massive jaws snapping a chicken and swallowing them in one
stroke, like it's just a snack, is really impressive. Back at the compound we started on our main meal.
Enjoying the meal and looked around to see all the crocodile items hanging around. We went for another walk after
the main course, seeing some nesting places and other crocs. Dessert for anyone who's still hungry.
I was pretty stuffed. We also had the opportunity to hold a baby crocodile in our hands. Which was great! Their
bellies were so soft to touch. After the lovely meal and excursion we went back to our accommodation. Most of us
anyway, others went to the bar to continue their party. Wrote my diary, listened to music and got packed for
tomorrow.
