Helping out during the sail trip

Woke up, took a shower and did the laundry. In the mean time wrote my diary and went for breakfast. Really enjoying the breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, potatoes and orange juice. Early in the morning Beth, Colin, Christian, Derek and Katherine has already left the group to continued their trip to the Red Centre, Alice Springs, Ayers Rocks, Kings Canyon, etc.

9:00 AM. I walked with Helga, Sean and Rachel to the wharf. It was a nice and sunny day for a sailing trip with a little breeze too. it's early in the morning but it was already pretty warm outside. Waited at the wharf for the others to arrive. Today we're going to sail with the Apollo, a large sailing yacht, to cruise the Whitsundays.

Looking forward to relax and enjoy the trip. To board the yacht we were brought by a small speedboat, capable of carrying eight to ten people at a time. After we climbed on board we had to take off our shoes, just out of precautions because it may be slippery when the deck is wet.

As soon as everyone was on board and tuck their stuff away inside the cabinet we got our instructions, basic and safety rules before we sailed away. Our main goal was sailing through the Whitsundays and visit Whitehaven Beach, one of best beaches in the world.

While we sailed I tried to stay in the shade as much as possible. don't want to get sunburned again, like on my previous tour. It was pretty awful sight and painful too, skin peeling off etc. Sunblock, a cap and light coloured clothes are a nice way to protect yourself against the sun. The sea was dead calm with a little breeze, but not enough wind to get the yacht going. We had to use the engine to get further.

It was pretty nice just to sit and watch the scenery while we cruised the Whitsundays. Clear your mind and relax. After a while we got some wind and the engine was turned off. Time to raise the sails and use the wind to cruise along the many islands in the Whitsundays.

We arrived at Whitehaven Beach after a couple hours. The crew brought us to the beach with a speedboat. didn't take my camera with me, because the water and the fine sand aren't good friend with cameras. The first step was in shallow water, the water was amazingly nice and just the right temperature. The sand on the beach was truly white and very fine. Never felt such fine sand before.

We were here only for two hours. No time to waste and many of us went for a refreshing dip. We played in the water with a tennisball, throwing to each other. Later on played with a volleyball. The water was so nice. Getting a tan on the beach, sipping a cola while enjoying the beach life. Time flies when you're having fun. It really does.

We were picked up again by a speedboat to have lunch on board the Apollo. A buffet with Italian food, meat, bread, salad, etc. The salad was really great! Never tasted a salad so good! Went back for another round. Yummy! After lunch we headed back to our resort.

With the wind in our sails we finally got some serious sailing. The boat almost went vertical on one side. Everyone had to sit and hang on to the opposite side to keep balance. Scary but real fun! Every second the yacht could capsize. Time went so fast as we got closer to our resort. Inside the cabin every bag on one side was thrown on the ground, due our sailing trip.

I was bit worried about my camera and particular my camcorder. Nothing broken, what a relief. Paid for the drinks I bought during the trip and went back on deck. We were brought back to the wharf by a speedboat. I went with the first group and we had to carry our bags of shoes with us. On the wharf we put every shoe together, so others from our group didn't have to look for their shoes. Took a photo of the sailboat and headed back to our resort.

Took a shower and watched TV. Dinner tonight was a barbecue for only $ 12 AUD. Eat as much you can! Yes, please! Sat down by Sean, Rachel, Andrew, and John. Got a plate and went for the delicious food. Chicken, meat, sausages, salad and much more. Eating was nice, but there was only one thing sitting with your back to the light, you couldn't see what you were eating. Ha, that was a good one! Just eat! It was pretty dark, no way you could see what you were eating.

After dinner we went to the Sandbar for some drinks and entertainment. Betting on a toad race and played pool. Watched the boys doing another tequila slammer. From the look on their faces it tells me it wasn't pretty, but it didn't matter as long they had fun. 11:00 PM. went off to my room and packed. Wrote my diary and went to sleep. Next
